We've got a Chirper!!

Ok, I just have to say that I hate the chirping sound of a smoke alarm! And, how come it always happens for the first time in the middle of the night??!!! And, when your husband is out of town!!! :) I had just been woken up by the sound of our sprinklers going on---oops, we forgot to shut them off! And with all the rain we've had, the sump pump had already been going on. So I was the lucky one to get up and go down to the garage to turn them off. Then I just get back to sleep and I hear "the CHIRP!" So I get up walk around the house and can't figure out which one is making that annoying noise. (I have never been able to tell direction of sound well) Finally I decide to just shut everyone's doors and try to go back to sleep. Well, then Shelby wakes up and asks if there is a fire. I get her back in bed, go to my room and shut the door. I lay down and realize that it could be the CO2 detectors because that has happened to me before. And, I knew I would be so bugged if that was the case and I just tried to sleep through it. I checked those, but they were fine, but I decided to take out the battery anyway. So, I go back to bed and finally get back to sleep. Then about an hour later the boys wake up and come into bed with me and they can't sleep because of "the CHIRP!" and neither can I!!! What a crazy night! I was thinking though, that I was lucky that I wasn't up with a little baby, trying to feed-change and such while being half asleep and wondering if the baby would go back to sleep and for how long! So glad those days are over!!! I need sleep--so not sure how I made it some nights. I still remember walking with my friend Wendy in CO and some mornings telling her the many times I had gotten up with Matt and not sure I even got any sleep. With Sam it was easy--he slept through the night at 6 weeks--until night tares came at 2 years old. And, Shelby---well, I just remember nursing and falling asleep and then changing her from her bed-to swing-to car seat-to bouncy chair. (anything to have her sleep!) :)
And, of course the "CHIRP!" is in the boys bedroom---with vaulted ceilings!!! And, yes, Tom is still out of town until about 10:00 tonight!!! So, yes---it is me who gets to get the big ladder and haul it up and down the stairs!! Oh, well, maybe I can count that as my exercise today!!! :)

This same thing happened to us a few months back, only it turned out to be a few of them that were chirping at the same time! We walked around trying to figure out which one it was and thought we found it, changed the battery and went back to bed. 20 minutes later, Chirp! So we walked around trying to figure out which one and ended up changing all of them. Such a pain on vaulted ceilings! Glad it was just chirp and not a fire!

The same thing has happened to us a few times!!! It is SOOOO annoying. And yes, it is always on our vaulted ceilings also. I remember hearing that they go off in the middle of the night because bugs (spiders) crawl across the sensor and set them off, crazy huh? This happened to us a few months ago and we borrowed a new 9-volt battery from my neighbor until we could go to the store. We put it in (on our vaulted ceiling) and still heard the chirping! Turns out that the battery, even though new, was expired and dead!! Keep that in mind just in case that happens to you!

What I don't understand is why it happens in the middle of the night? It has NEVER happened to me during the day, go figure?

Yes! I HATE that too!! That happened just a few weeks ago and it was my job to find it. I think Todd had a cold or something. It is REALLY hard to figure out where its coming from!! Finally I took out every single battery and it was the last one in the basement. By then I was awake enough that I just started cleaning the basement for awhile! - and why always at night??!!

This made me laugh! The same thing happened to my sister, Joy, when Matthew was out of town. It annoyed her so much that she got a chair and a broom and pounded on them (on the vaulted ceilings) until they came down. :)

One night Jason and I heard a chirp, hauled the 8 foot ladder upstairs, replaced the battery, took the ladder back down to the garage, went back to bed, only tod discover that it was the CO2 detector plugged into the wall!

Oh, Suz, you gave us all a chuckle and reminded us of the annoying times it has happened to us. The last time this happened to us it was the Carbon Monoxide chirping, but it seemed like a different chirp, I was so sure it was alarming us of a problem not a low battery. I was up for hours trying to find the manual to see if the last number displayed was in the correct levele, etc. Alas, it was just the battery! If I remember correctly, Mike was rather annoyed with me that night, might have been better if he was out of town! It was fun chatting with you the yesterday...I miss our talks!

Ha! I hate the "chirp", but I would rather have the "chirp" than the full blown alarm. That is scary. Remind me to tell you my "chirp" and salad tongs story it is a good one.

Ahh...the dreaded chirp. I actually woke up two nights ago to our carbon monoxide alarm (in between the late-night feedings - lovely). Why does that thing always go off in the middle of the night?? Hope you figured it out and got your chirp taken care of!!

I hope "the chirper" has been put down! That's so annoying-sorry. I hope you guys are having a great fall and all is well. Later--Kami

Ours always seems to do that when we are the most tired or yes always when Rob is out of town or when we have company staying with us. Once we had one still chirp after we took the battery out of it! Those thngs can be hard to kill! We left it out in our car overnight so we wouldn't have to hear it!

This happened to us when we were staying a fancy "cabin"-like resort called "The Homestead" in Heber,Ut area...for our anniversary. So fun...and they wouldn't do anything about it!! I was ticked.
